Reflexology
Treatment
Consultation
A consultation is an important part
of any holistic treatment and will
usually last for about fifteen minutes,
although the first consultation might
take longer. The consultation takes
place before the treatment and the
Reflexologist will ask questions regarding
your lifestyle, medical conditions
and history, your objectives for receiving
the treatment and what is currently
going on in your life. These questions
will allow the Reflexologist to treat
you in a holistic way (physically,
mentally and spiritually) based on
the information given and also identify
if there are medical reasons, (contra-indications)
why the treatment should not take
place (please refer to the Reflexology
Prices page for
the list of conditions not suitable
for Reflexology).
All information given is confidential
and all details will be securely stored
to ensure your privacy. The consultation
will also give you time to ask any
questions or air any concerns that
you may have about the treatment to
the Reflexologist. It will also help
you get to know the therapist and
develop a good relationship with her
and vice versa.
Treatment
After your consultation, you will
be asked to remove your shoes and
socks only, you will then be asked
lie on the couch. The Reflexologist
will cleanse your feet before the
start of the treatment. The treatment
will then start with a relaxing
foot massage to warm up the feet
and to prepare them for reflexology,
followed by reflexology where pressure
is applied to the feet using finger
and thumb movements. The treatment
will end with a closing foot massage
and then any areas of imbalance
found on the feet will be recorded
onto an assessment sheet therefore
building up a record of your treatments.
How long should I allow
for a treatment and how many treatments
will I need?
For your first treatment you should
allow one and a half hours due to
the consultation, treatments after
this will be approximately 1 hour.
Depending on the severity or your
body’s needs a course of treatment
(usually six weekly treatments)
may be required to bring about a
state of balance within your body.
After this state has been reached
a monthly treatment is usually recommended.
How will I feel after a
treatment?
After one or two treatments your
body may respond in a very definite
way. Most people note a sense of
well-being and relaxation; sometimes
people report feeling lethargic,
nauseous or tearful, but this is
transitory and is a part of the
healing process. These experiences
will be recorded onto your assessment
sheet at every treatment, therefore
building up a complete picture of
your treatment, experiences and
the outcome.
Healing
Crisis
After a treatment some clients may
experience what therapists call
‘a healing crises’ and
you may experience the following:
A headache, Cold/Flu symptoms, going
to the toilet more often and emotional
upset (crying).
If you do experience healing crises,
there is nothing to be alarmed about,
it is the body’s way of naturally
removing the toxins and negative
energy which have been released
during the treatment. The symptoms
should only last for a couple of
days, but if you are at all concerned
please do not hesitate to speak
to your therapist.
