Reiki Treatment

Consultation
A consultation is an important part of the Reiki treatment and will usually last for about fifteen minutes, although the first consultation might take longer. The consultation takes place before the treatment and the Reiki practitioner will ask questions regarding your lifestyle, medical conditions and history, your objectives for receiving healing and what is currently going on in your life. These questions will allow the practitioner to treat you in a holistic way (physically, mentally and spiritually) based on the information given and also identify if there are medical reasons, (contra-indications) why the treatment should not take place (please refer to the Reiki Prices page for the list of conditions not suitable for Reiki).
All information given is confidential and all details will be securely stored to ensure your privacy. The consultation will also give you time to ask any questions or air any concerns that you may have about the treatment to the practitioner. It will also help you get to know the practitioner and develop a good relationship with her and vice versa.

Treatment
After your consultation, the practitioner will explain to you what will happen during the session and you will be asked to lie down fully clothed on a treatment couch or if lying down is a problem for you, to sit in a chair. The only items you will be asked to remove are your shoes, belt and, if you wear one, your watch. When you are comfortable the treatment will begin. Starting with the head, the practitioner will move down your body concentrating on the seven major Chakras (see about Reiki Page) and also any areas that the practitioner is guided to work on. Healing is usually given with the hands on the body, however sometimes the practitioner will feel guided to work with the hands off the body. Which ever method is used Reiki will still locate and go to the place that requires healing. All you have to do during the session is to be open as much possible to the treatment, relax and enjoy your time.

After Treatment
The Practitioner will touch you lightly on the shoulder to indicate that the session is over, you will be allowed to ‘come round’ in your own time, and water will be given as refreshment. The practitioner will record her findings on your assessment sheet and will ask you questions to find out what (if any) experiences you had during your treatment. An assessment sheet will be completed for every treatment received this creates a record of how the healing is progressing. During this time your practitioner will also discuss and agree with you, your treatment plan and go through the aftercare advice sheet. It is very difficult to predict how you will feel after a Reiki session as so many people react in so many different ways after receiving Reiki. However clients may experience some the following: Lethargy, relaxation, release of tension, feeling of well being and in some cases a marked increase in energy levels.

How long should I allow for a treatment and how many treatments will I need?
For your first treatment you should allow one and a half hours due to the consultation, treatments after this will be approximately 1 hour. Depending on the severity or your body’s needs a course of treatment (usually six weekly treatments) may be required to bring about a state of balance within your body. After this state has been reached a monthly treatment is usually recommended.

Healing Crisis
After a treatment some clients may experience what therapists call ‘a healing crisis’ and you may experience the following:
A headache, Cold/Flu symptoms, going to the toilet more often and emotional upset (crying). If you do experience a healing crisis, there is nothing to be alarmed about, it is the body’s way of naturally removing the toxins and negative energy which have been released during the treatment. The symptoms should only last for a couple of days, but if you are at all concerned please do not hesitate to speak to your therapist.
